Here's some trivia you may not realize if you aren't rich . . . a banker . . . or a drug dealer: What's the LARGEST current denomination for U.S. paper currency: The $100,000 bill . . . $10,000 . . . $1,000 . . . $500 . . . or $100?
It's the $100. That's the largest bill that's been printed over the past 80 years.
Well, that could be changing.
The White House is pushing Congress to approve a new $250 bill, featuring Donald Trump's portrait. That would require changing a 160-year-old law that prohibits any LIVING person from appearing on U.S. currency.
Why $250? Trump has floated the idea in recent months to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary.
The "Washington Post" said that two of Trump's political appointees at the Treasury pushed staff to start preparing prototypes of a $250 bill with Trump's image . . . but the final call is up to Congress.
The legislation would need a simple majority in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, which Trump could probably get. But it would need 60 votes in the Senate, where Republicans hold 53 seats . . . so that'd be tougher.
For what it's worth, the top U.S. House Democrat, Hakeem Jeffries, Tweeted, "Hard NO on a Trump $250 bill. Get over yourself. The July 4th anniversary is not about a wannabe King. It's about celebrating the American journey."
That said, Trump has changed U.S. currency before. Last year, he shut down production of the penny. That was to save money . . . although ADDING this bill would obviously cost more money to produce.
