Music: Alex Van Halen Is Completing an Album of Unfinished Van Halen Music

Alex Van Halen Is Completing an Album of Unfinished Van Halen Music

It looks like we're getting one more album from Van Halen. In a manner of speaking.

Alex Van Halen is in the process of completing an album of unfinished material they were working on before Eddie died.  Toto star and all-around musical genius Steve Lukather is helping him out.

Alex says the drums, guitar, and bass are already mostly recorded . . . with Wolfgang Van Halen laying down the bass lines. Lukather, who can basically play any instrument, is helping with the "connective tissue."

All they need now is a singer, but it doesn't sound like they're considering any former Van Halen vocalists.  Paul Rodgers was originally in the running, but health issued prevented that from happening.

Whoever it is probably won't be young. Alex says, quote, "We gotta find somebody in [our] age group who was exposed to the same musical experience that we have. Otherwise, it doesn't have the depth."

U2 Released a Politically-Charged EP on Ash Wednesday

U2 fans got an Ash Wednesday present, in the form of a politically-charged EP called "Days of Ash".

Subjects covered in the six songs include ICE, the Iranian uprisings, the war in Ukraine, and the Israeli / Palestinian conflict in the West Bank.

The song titles are "American Obituary", "The Tears of Things", "Song of the Future", "Wildpeace", "One Life at a Time", and "Yours Eternally". That one features Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian singer Taras Topolia.

Bono says, quote, "The songs on 'Days of Ash' are very different in mood and theme to the ones we're going to put on our album later in the year. These EP tracks couldn't wait; these songs were impatient to be out in the world.

"They are songs of defiance and dismay, of lamentation. Songs of celebration will follow, we're working on those now."

Live Nation Trial Will Go Forward

Live Nation’s attempt to skirt a trial over its business practices has failed. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian greenlit the trial, yesterday, and now the company has to deal with DOJ allegations that it monopolized ticket sales to major concert venues and illegally tied the use of its amphitheaters to its promotion business. The DOJ is looking to split up Live Nation and Ticketmaster…a merger that was approved by the federal government to begin with in 2010.
