Music News: Slash Doesn't Think the Sphere Is Rock 'n' Roll Friendly

Slash Doesn't Think the Sphere Is Rock 'n' Roll Friendly.

Guns N' Roses is planning on doing a U.S. tour next year, but don't expect them to do a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere.  Slash doesn't think it's very "rock 'n' roll friendly", and he has a point.

Quote, "I'm real trepidatious about playing there, because . . . it's a great visual show. I think that in almost every case for a band, it becomes a visual show as opposed to seeing a rock and roll show . . .

"Also, from talking to Joe Walsh about it, 'cause obviously The Eagles have been doing a residency there since forever, is that it's not really sort of rock 'n' roll friendly, the way that it's set up."

Slash isn't ruling out ever playing there, though. He's never been, but he says it seems cool and the venue itself looks amazing. He just doesn't know if it's the right fit for GNR since the show's main focus is projected visuals.

U2 Gives Health Update On Drummer Larry Mullins

U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr. is continuing to recover well from the neck surgery he had in 2023, which caused him to miss the band's Las Vegas Sphere residency. Bono gave an update this week while accepting the Woody Guthrie Prize in Tulsa, Oklahoma, saying Mullen has been playing at his absolute best and his drumming is incredible. The best part? Mullen has been back in the studio with U2 working on new music with producer Brian Eno. He made a surprise appearance with the band in May at the Ivor Novello Awards in London, his first performance with them in over five years. Mullen said being away due to injury was difficult, and he didn't realize how much he missed being with the band.

Thom Yorke Reveals Why Radiohead Hasn't Toured Since 2018

Radiohead’s frontman has opened up about why they stopped touring for seven years before their upcoming European shows starting next month. Thom Yorke told The Times that the band felt like they were about to walk off a cliff after their 2018 tour, so they decided to stop. Yorke said he needed time to grieve the death of his former partner Rachel Owen, who died of cancer in 2016. He explained that his grief was coming out in unhealthy ways and at times even music physically hurt him. Guitarist Ed O'Brien said he was done with Radiohead by the end of their last tour, telling the band he didn't want to do it anymore. He went through a deep depression and hit bottom in 2021, but coming out of it made him realize how much he loves his bandmates, who he's known since he was 17. The band is now celebrating its 40th anniversary together.
