DoorDash Serves Up The Top Thanksgiving Trends
We haven’t even gotten through Halloween yet, but DoorDash is already looking ahead to Turkey Day. Their Thanksgiving Trends report has just come out, serving up stats on the way Americans prep and celebrate the biggest food holiday of the year.
It turns out, the day before Thanksgiving can be the most stressful, as kitchens are chaotic, fridges are overflowing and panic sets in for cooks and hosts, especially when they realize they forgot something essential.
- Thanksgiving Eve is officially the biggest grocery delivery day of the year for DoorDash, with orders skyrocketing nearly 90% higher than an average day.
- Filling carts across the country that Wednesday were heat bags (up 2,400% compared to a normal day), trays and platters (up 2,100%), sage (up 19-hundred %), dining furniture (up 17-hundred %), and even last-minute whole turkeys (up 820%).
- While everyone is stuffing birds and peeling potatoes, no one wants to cook dinner the night before Thanksgiving, leading to nearly 5-million DoorDash orders across the country that night, making it their busiest Wednesday of the year.
- It’s also a huge night for alcohol orders, which were up 88% compared to an average Wednesday.
- Lots of hometown hookups happen on Thanksgiving Eve, and condom orders jumped more than 30%.
On Thanksgiving Day, meat thermometers top the list of last-minute orders (up 3-thousand %), followed by cake pans (up 12-hundred %), gravy (up 630%), measuring cups (up 560%), marshmallows (up 370%), whipped cream (up 310%), and disposable containers (up 400%).
- Pumpkin pie is the most ordered dessert on DoorDash, with cheesecake coming in second, followed by apple, chocolate and pecan pies.
- When it comes to sides, mashed potatoes are number one, they’re the most ordered side in 10 states. Corn, gravy, sweet potatoes, and cranberries round out the top five sides ordered.
- This Thanksgiving, DoorDash predicts squash will be taking over as a trendy side.

Happy National Food Day!
National Food Day falls on October 24 each year. This day, celebrated for the first time in 1975, was created by the Center for Science and Public Interest (CSPI) and was supposed to be similar to Earth Day. The day toasts nutritious and healthy food, and focuses on educating people on healthy eating, good farming methods, and safe food production. It also reminds us of the strides we’ve made in living more healthy lives and growing food in viable, responsible ways.
