Smucker’s Sues Trader Joe’s With Claims Of Ripping Off Uncrustables
As Yoda said, “Begun, the frozen premade sandwich wars have.” Smucker's is suing Trader Joe's for allegedly ripping off Uncrustables, the premade crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Uncrustables were invented in 1995 by two guys in Fargo, North Dakota, and Smucker's bought the brand in 1998 for $1 million. The product is now on pace to make over $1 billion in yearly revenue. Earlier this year, Trader Joe's started selling its own version called Crustless Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam Sandwiches. Smucker's responded with a lawsuit saying Trader Joe's is violating its patents and trademarks, including the crimping on the outside of the sandwiches and the coloring and lettering on the packaging. Smucker's says it doesn't mind others selling similar sandwiches, but companies can't use its intellectual property to do it. The company wants money and a court order forcing Trader Joe's to destroy its crustless sandwiches.

Lay’s Rebrands To Show Chips Are Made From Real Potatoes
Lay’s is getting a major glow-up as it approaches its 100th year, complete with a new logo, sunnier packaging, and an all-natural ingredient overhaul. The brand hopes the redesign, which features warm “Lay’s Rays,” a revamped color palette, and close-up chip photography, will highlight its “real potato” roots, because apparently 42% of surveyed snackers didn’t know Lay’s were made from actual potatoes. The company is also swapping out some seed oils for olive and avocado oil in certain lines and plans on making even more changes in the coming year. Whether you’re snickering at the survey or craving a fresh crunch, Lay’s is betting its new look will make everyone see the humble potato in a whole new light.
