The Top Three Scariest Natural Disasters . . . Don't Include Hurricanes

This Friday is the 20th anniversary of when Hurricane Katrina slammed into Louisiana.

A new poll asked Americans what the SCARIEST natural disasters are, and hurricanes didn't make the Top Three. Here's the full ranking:

1. A tornado . . . 46% say they're scary

2. A tsunami . . . 43%

3. An earthquake . . . 35%

4. A hurricane . . . 33%

5. A wildfire . . . 30%

6. A flash flood . . . 26%

7. A heatwave or drought . . . 6%

8. A blizzard . . . 4%

9. A mudslide . . . 4%

There isn't a #10, but it might have been a volcano . . . an asteroid impact . . . or the dreaded "group text avalanche."

Naturally, some people are more terrified of the things that are more likely to happen in their area. But others feel more prepared for those things . . . and are more likely to fear UNEXPECTED threats.

And a lot of people are thinking about weather chaos more than they used to. 51% say they've noticed that severe weather is becoming more common . . . 37% believe that severe weather is increasing in strength . . .

80% are more aware of natural disasters and severe weather than they were a decade ago . . . but 61% think it's harder to be prepared for natural disasters today than ever before.
