Labor Day: The Hardest-Working States in America

Believe it or not, Monday is Labor Day. And in general, Americans put in more hours at work than people in most other countries.

The average in the U.S. was 1,805 hours last year. That's MORE than people in Canada, Australia, Japan, or the U.K. But LESS than people in Colombia and Korea.

But which state has the HARDEST workers? Well, not Michigan. An annual study ranked all 50 states based on things like employment rates, hours worked, average commute, and how much free time people have in general.

According to the results, the 10 hardest-working states are: North Dakota . . . Alaska . . . South Dakota . . . Texas . . . Hawaii . . . Virginia . . . New Hampshire . . . Wyoming . . . Maryland . . . and Nebraska.

Michigan ranked last, followed by West Virginia . . . Rhode Island . . . Nevada . . . New York . . . California . . . Ohio . . . New Mexico . . . Illinois . . . and Oregon.
