Whether you're an early bird or a night owl . . . or both . . . everyone wishes they could get more sleep. But it's easier said than done. And it's hard to say what the "normal" person is doing. But let's try.
A new study found that the average American begins their "nighttime routine" at 10:15 P.M.
On average, it takes 21 minutes to get ready for bed . . . so that happens at around 10:36. Then, it takes more than 40 minutes before people actually fall asleep . . . and the average person falls asleep at 11:18 P.M.
Of course, the timing varies based on when people need to get up the next morning . . . and how much they need to do before starting work.
The average person reports they have THREE mornings per week when they wish they'd gone to sleep earlier.
The top excuses for why they didn't include: Needing to get chores done . . . they're night owls who like being up late . . . they don't want to sleep and "fast-forward" to the next workday . . . and they "want to connect with their partner."
And since it's August now: Parents of school-age children generally get less sleep when their kid goes back to school. 53% of them say they have to get up earlier to get their kids ready . . . and about 25% say they have to stay up later to prepare lunches or help their kids with homework.
