Music News: METALLICA In Talks For Las Vegas Sphere Residency

METALLICA In Talks For Las Vegas Sphere Residency

According to Vital VegasMETALLICA is "ready to ink a deal for a Sphere residency" in Las Vegas. The site, which bills itself as "your go-to source for news and opinions about all things Las Vegas," reports that the heavy metal giants "could play Sphere in the fall of 2026" after METALLICA's scheduled "M72" world tour dates conclude with another European run in July 2026, "but specifics haven't been confirmed or announced yet."

This past April, METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett was asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he and his bandmates would entertain the possibility of performing at the Las Vegas Sphere, the 17,600-capacity venue which has transformed live entertainment since opening in September 2023. He responded: "Oh, heck, yeah! That's a great example of how venues are changing. That's using modern technology to the fullest, to really up the levels of production and entertainment, connected to A.I. and making it a crazy experience."

SHINEDOWN: Another Single To Arrive In October, Eighth Album To Be Announced In November

In a recent interview SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith spoke about the band's upcoming eighth studio album, which is tentatively due in early 2026. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "What I can tell you is we don't know what the name of the album is just yet. I can tell you that it's not a concept record. It is definitely a true traditional album. [The songs] all stand alone, but they all belong on the same body of work. But they're not related to one another. But they're on the body of work — they're under the same roof, basically. I can tell you that there's gonna be another single in October that's going to show a completely other side of the band. I can tell you that the announce of the record will be in November."

As we told you on Monday, Elton John has a cameo in the new "Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues". To hype the September 12th release, they just dropped a video of Spinal Tap live in concert, with Elton John on lead vocals, doing "Stonehenge".

Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails Reportedly Trade Drummers

Swapping instruments? Sure. Swapping drummers for your tour? That’s a new one. In a rare music-world twist, the Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails have basically traded drummers. Ilan Rubin, who has toured with Nine Inch Nails since 2009 and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with them in 2020, has joined Foo Fighters just months after they parted ways with Josh Freese. Meanwhile, Freese is returning to Nine Inch Nails, where he previously played from 2005 to 2008, for their North American “Peel It Back” tour starting Wednesday. Foo Fighters will begin their Asia tour in October with Rubin behind the drums. Both bands embrace the moves, with NIN posting “Let’s f---ing go” when Freese rejoined. Foo Fighters also recently released their first new track in two years, “Today’s Song,” ahead of their 30th anniversary.
