National Pet Week: Half of Dog Owners Have a "Meal Ritual" for Their Pup

Saying you were "treated like a dog" is supposed to be a BAD thing, right?

A poll for National Pet Week looked at how much we pamper our dogs, specifically at meal time. And we don't just slop food into a bowl anymore.

Almost half of dog owners (44%) say they have at least one meal time "ritual" for their pup. Here are the top ways we make dinner special for our dogs . . .

1. Always putting food in a specific spot, or a specific dish. 48% do it.

2. Adding an extra ingredient, like chicken broth or a meal "topper," 38%.

3. Hand-mixing food to make it more appetizing, 30%.

4. Saying a special word or phrase before feeding them, 22%.

5. Giving them a treat as an appetizer, 20%.

6. Plating their meal as if you're preparing a gourmet dish, 16%.

7. Heating it up to a specific temperature, 15%.

8. Setting the table and sitting down with them to eat at the same time, 14%.

9. Letting them "choose" their food by offering options to see what they go for, 12%.

10. Using specific utensils to serve their meal, 12%.

11. Singing a song when you serve them dinner, 9%.

12. Dancing with your dog, 9%. 21% said their dog does "a little dance" when it's time to eat. So, some of us join in.

Last stat, and it shows how our dogs are the ones training US: 70% of owners say that if they're even a minute late with dinner, their dog lets them know about it.
