May is National Moving Month and it’s also the start of peak moving season, but where are Americans moving to most? New research from Penske Truck Rental has the answer. They’ve just released their 15th annual Top Moving Destinations list, which shows the top cities for moves in 2024.
Penske also surveyed people who moved to find out why they did it. It turns out, 82% look at moving as a fresh start and more than half moved to find a greater sense of community.
- Other reasons include being closer to loved ones (28%), better job opportunities (27%), lower cost of living (23%) and needing more space (23%).
- For two-thirds (67%), moving had a positive impact on their overall well-being and 56% say it was a positive process overall.
- Nearly seven in 10 (69%) prefer to rent and drive their own moving truck and 57% of those who did say that packing and organizing actually helped reduce stress from the move.
- So, where was everyone moving to most last year? For the fourth year in a row, the top destination for moves was Houston, Texas.
- Atlanta is number two on the list, up from number four in the previous year’s ranking.
