If you call a kid "brace face" these days, they might take it as a compliment . . .
"The Washington Post" says old-school braces are COOL now.
An orthodontist in Tucson, Arizona told them kids BEG for metal braces now instead of things like Invisalign. He says they've become a weird sort of "fashion symbol."
Another one in California agreed. He said it started about a year ago, and now more and more patients are excited to get them. He asked other orthodontists in a Facebook group, and they said it's a nationwide trend.
A handful of influencers and celebrities have made them trendy. Some may have even gotten them just for show.
Fake braces have also become a thing on Etsy, but experts say don't do it. They can cause infections, tooth damage, or be a choking hazard.
The "Post" talked to a dental assistant in Brooklyn who's 24 and recently got braces. He said, "No shade to Invisalign, but it's kind of boring to me."
