This could be seriously awesome: Lizzo is going to star in a biopic about Sister Rosetta Tharpe . . . also known as the Godmother of Rock and Roll.
Tharpe was a gospel singer who mixed spiritual lyrics with electric guitar. She blew up in the '30s and '40s, and influenced everyone from Chuck Berry to Little Richard, and even Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Eric Clapton.
Her 1944 song "Strange Things Happening Every Day" is considered by some to be the first rock and roll record.
The movie takes place at a time when Tharpe was preparing for the first-ever stadium show in music history, while also having to, quote, "hide her love for another woman."
