Michelle Trachtenberg from "Buffy" and "Gossip Girl" Has Died Months After a Liver Transplant
Michelle Trachtenberg, from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Gossip Girl", was found dead by her mother at her home in New York City yesterday morning. She was only 39.
There's no word yet on the cause of death, but sources say she underwent a liver transplant within the past year, and there's all kinds of speculation that her body rejected it. Again, there's no word what caused her to need the procedure.
Michelle never revealed any health issues, but fans had commented on some of her more recent selfies that she didn't look well. But Michelle would just call them "haters" and say she was "happy and healthy."
Michelle's boyfriend, a talent agent named Jay Cohen, actually answered the door for a reporter yesterday, but told him the family had no comment.
Michelle got her start on Nickelodeon's "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" and "Harriet the Spy", before landing the role of Buffy's little sister Dawn on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
Then she played the recurring role of Georgina Sparks on "Gossip Girl". She made her final onscreen appearance in two episodes of the Max reboot in 2023.
Tributes are pouring in from friends and former co-stars.
Rosie O'Donnell, who starred with Michelle in "Harriet the Spy", made an interesting comment . . . quote, "I loved her very much. She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped."
