Australian breakdancing superhero Raygun . . . a.k.a. Rachael Gunn . . . is now officially the #1 ranked female breakdancer IN THE WORLD.
Meanwhile, the three women who actually medaled at the Olympics didn't even make the Top 10.
Pretty much the entire universe wanted to know how this was possible, so breaking's governing body, The World DanceSport Federation, issued an explanation.
The rankings are based on points from each dancer's top four performances over the past 12 months. And ONLY the last 12 months.
However, the Olympics interrupted the awarding of points this year so the athletes could focus on training, as is the case for many sports.
Because of that, three major events did NOT count toward dancers' points: The Olympic qualifiers in Shanghai and Budapest, and the Olympics themselves.
So even though Raygun got ZERO POINTS for her AMAZING Olympic routine, neither did the other dancers, including the three who won medals.
There were actually very few ranking events in the sport this year, and it just so happens that Raygun WON one of the last non-Olympic events of the past year.
That would be the Oceania Continental Championships in October 2023.
Therefore, Raygun currently RULES THE WORLD OF BREAKDANCING. As it should be.
