Yesterday was not a great day for Spotify, image-wise. First they announced they're raising their prices.
The individual plan is going from $10.99 to $11.99 . . . The duo plan is jumping from $14.99 to $16.99 . . . and the family plan is being raised from $16.99 to $19.99.
Then Spotify CEO Daniel Ek put his foot in his mouth by saying it costs "close to zero" to create content.
His exact quote was, "Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero, people can share an incredible amount of content."
Of course, anyone who actually CREATES "content" . . . which some of us geezers still like to call MUSIC . . . will tell you that it does NOT, in fact, cost close to zero to make it. At least not if you're doing it right.
As one record label put it . . . quote, "Artists and bands spend huge amounts of time and resources learning their craft, acquiring equipment, rehearsing, writing, recording, employing producers/mixers etc."
Ek later clarified that he didn't mean to, quote, "devalue the time, effort, or resources involved in creating meaningful works."
