Slayer Guitarist Says No More Albums, Tours

Slayer’s unexpected announcement of their reunion for various music festivals this fall coincides with guitarist Kerry King's freshly unveiled debut solo album "From Hell I Rise" and its accompanying tour. However, King was quick to clarify on XM’s “Trunk Nation” that the Slayer reunion is merely a brief "blip on the radar" of one-off live appearances, adding, “Every time I talk about it to journalists and magazines and stuff, I say, ‘Listen, Slayer is not gonna make another record. Slayer is never gonna tour again.’” Looking ahead, King plans to ramp up activities with his solo group next year, saying that Slayer could potentially reunite once every "two years, every three years, every five years." The guitarist, who hasn't spoken to former bandmate Tom Araya since Slayer's "premature" 2019 retirement, remains focused on supporting his solo album this summer alongside Mastodon and Lamb of God.

Serj Tankian Talks Creative Differences With System of a Down

System of a Down's attempts to record a new album between 2016-2018 ultimately collapsed due to creative differences stemming from the dynamic between songwriters Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian, the singer revealed in a recent interview. While promoting his new memoir "Down With the System.” Tankian is shedding new light on how their roles have shifted over time, with each musician encroaching on the other's territory. The frontman described Malakian as fiercely protective of his music, suggesting this fueled tensions, adding, "I think that created some of the creative differences that we started finding.” Despite plans to collaborate in 2016, the group grew disheartened by lack of progress, with Tankian ultimately drawing "a line in the sand,” saying he couldn't revert to past dynamics. The iconic nu-metal act has since performed select shows, including headlining Las Vegas' Sick New World festival, with one more slated for August in San Francisco.
