A decorated Marine veteran in Texas has developed a system to help people safely escape an active shooter situation.
Former Marine Ernie Williams knows how to deal with an active shooter scenario having spent decades in the U.S. military. Now he’s putting his expertise to work to help other people escape from just such a circumstance.
His company, Go-To-Green, produces, installs, and monitors systems that can track an active shooter and direct people to safe escape routes. The system uses sensors to detect the sound of gunfire and then color-coded lights offer safe paths to get away from the danger. The system also indicates if the threat is in the immediate vicinity and the Go-To-Green operations center provides real-time information to law enforcement.
The city of Anna, Texas, is going to be the site of the company’s first project. "Right now we're getting ready to put it in City Hall and we're in discussion to go further," Williams says. A pair of Texas school districts and a church are also considering installing the system. The systems run from $50- to $100-thousand dollars to install, depending on the size of the site.
