Did you know Jim ALMOST had an affair while married to Pam on"The Office"?
According to a new book called"Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office", that the series creator wanted to really test the characters' marriage.
It would have happened during a Season 8 episode called"After Hours", where Jim goes on a Florida business trip and Cathy the receptionist tries to seduce him. Pam was out on MATERNITY LEAVE at the time.
I don't know if this is a case of life imitating art, butPAUL LIEBERSTEINabsolutely wanted it to happen. He was a co-showrunner, but he also played Toby Flenderson . . . who was always trying to get with Pam so he was super-jealous of Jim.
The reason it didn't happen? JOHN KRASINSKI. In the book he says, quote, "That's the only time I remember putting my foot down . . . I remember saying things I never thought I'd say before, like, 'I'm not going to shoot it.'
"My feeling is there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. But there's a moment where if you push them too far, they'll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they'll never come back.'"
