A&W Is Selling a "3/9-Pound" Burger Because Americans Are Bad at Math
In the 1980s, A&W tried to compete with the McDonald's Quarter Pounder by coming out with a 1/3 (third) pound burger.
That's technically bigger than a 1/4 (fourth) pound burger, but people who were bad at math didn't understand that. It went down as one of the biggest marketing flops ever, so now A&W is leaning into it with their new 3/9 pound burger. Same burger with a different name.
