I had a chance to speak with Tom Morello on Thursday after the show. The day before Tom releases his Atlas Underground Fire Album.
He works with everyone from Bring Me The Horizon, Grandson, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, and Chris Stapleton on this album. I know going in with artists they are giving up their time in exchange to help promote their new album. It’s not like that with Tom. Everything and Anything goes with this guy. He’s a bigger “Rock-Freak” than I am. We connect on many levels. There was no time limit given or topics to stay away from. That rarely if EVER happens!
Sure, we talk a lot about the album because it’s fascinating to hear how it was recorded (mostly on his iPhone) during the pandemic! He hasn’t even met some of the collaborators on the album face to face yet! He talks about his Family and how he didn’t pick up a guitar for 4 months at the beginning of the pandemic just being a dad, husband, and son holding his family together. He now gives lessons to his son who in Tom’s words is now the “SHREDDER” in the family! We talk about our LOVE of the band Kiss growing up, him inducting them into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and how he made the most noise to get Randy Rhodes into the hall this year!
Of course, we talk about Rage Against The Machine and plans for 2022.
He is a dude you want to hang out with, drinking beer and talking music till after last call. There is only one like him… The Eddie Van Halen of MY Generation. Tom Morello.
