Pearl Jam Play First Concert In Over Three Years

Pearl Jam was back on stage this weekend for the first time in over three years headlining the Sea.Hear.Now a festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and it was pretty apparent they were as excited to be on stage as their fans were to see them.

The band opened the over two-hour set with three “Gigaton” songs, “Dance of the Clarioyants,” “Quick Escape” and “Seven O’Clock,” the first time any of them have been played in concert. Later in the night, they played three others, “Never Destination,” “Take the Long Way” and “Superblood Wolfmoon.”

The night also featured such classics as "Even Flow," "Alive" and "Porch," as well as a dedication of “Wishlist” to the late comedian NormMacDonald, with frontman Eddie Vedder sharing, “I'm so upset. I wish I had talked to him more, texted him more. They also tagged the Rolling Stones’ “Waiting On A Friend” during the song for the late Charlie Watts.

And being in New Jersey, they also covered Bruce Springsteen’s “My City Of Ruins,” and Eddie even joked about Bruce’s DUI arrest last year, joking that Bruce shouldn’t have been arrested. “You got to make an exception, please, at some point,” Vedder said. “That would be the exception I would think.”

  • Pearl Jam was also joined by two guests during their set, former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who performed with the band for the entire show. It was later revealed that he had joined the group as a touring guitarist. In addition, Patti Smith’s guitarist Lenny Kaye joined the band for the closing number, Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Check out some clips to the right.
