Nickelback Faces Lawsuit Over Song “Rockstar”

Nickelback is being dragged to court over their 2005 hit “Rockstar.” A man named Kirk Johnston has sued the band – along with Roadrunner Records, Warner Chappell Music Inc, and Live Nation – for copyright infringement over the song.

Kirk has accused the band of ripping off his own song “Rock Star,” which he wrote in 2001 when he was in the band Snowblind Revival. He says they made 15 copies of the master and sent it to record labels, including Roadrunner and Warner Chappell… and claims the labels gave it to Nickelback, who copied the song.

Kirk thinks Nickelback’s song “Rockstar” copies his song’s “tempo, song form, melodic structure, harmonic structures, and lyrical themes.” Nickelback doesn’t agree, but a judge has given the case the green light. We’ll have to see if Kirk can prove the two songs are “substantially” or “strikingly” similar, after all.

Brian May Says Queen Is 'Looking At Ideas' For "Bohemian Rhapsody" Follow Up

It looks like there could be a sequel to Queen's award-winning biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody." Speaking on Instagram Live, lead guitarist Brian May said the band has been "looking at ideas." He explained it's going to be hard to follow "Bohemian Rhapsody" after its immense success. He noted no one thought it was going to be as massive as it was, as it was bigger than "Gone With The Wind." May said it could happen, but it would have to be a great script. The biopic brought in over a billion dollars in 2018 and won four Academy Awards and two Golden Globes. The movie followed the late frontman Freddie Mercury in the beginning days of the band through their iconic performance at the 1985 Live Aid event.
