DIE HARD Is A Christmas Movie And So Are These Oddball Holiday Favorites

People love to debate the Die Hard thing, but it takes place on Christmas Eve, kicks off with Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis", and ends with "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", so come on. Plus, we all get to decide what our personal Christmas movies are.

Here are some other outside-the-box choices that totally qualify...

Lethal Weapon (1987)

Takes place at Christmas time, opens with "Jingle Bell Rock", features an action scene at a Christmas tree lot, and the final showdown happens out in the snow with Christmas lights in the background.

Gremlins (1984)

Set at Christmas time, opens with "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by Darlene Love, features caroling, Christmas lights, and a truly horrifying Santa story. Also, Gizmo, the pet Mogwai that kicks off the whole plot is a Christmas gift.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Like pretty much all Shane Black movies (he has a few on this list) it takes place at Christmas, this superhero sequel's soundtrack features three different versions of "Jingle Bells", and holiday visuals include snow, Christmas lights, and streets packed with last-minute Christmas shoppers.

Trading Places (1983)

The classic Eddie Murphy/Dan Aykroyd comedy starts the week of Christmas and runs through New Year's Eve. At one point the Dan Aykroyd character crashes his former employers' Christmas party dressed as Santa.

The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)

This under-rated action thriller stars Geena Davis as an amnesiac suburban mom who starts regaining memories after an accident over the holidays and realizes that she is a CIA assassin. It was written by Shane Black, so lots of snow, lights, holiday parties, etc.

Batman Returns (1992)

The second Batman outing for Michael Keaton and director Tim Burton is very Christmassy. It opens with a sad flashback to a Christmas from the Penguin's childhood before jumping to present-day Gotham City at Christmas time. There's a giant Christmas tree lighting ceremony, appearances by Gotham's holiday "Ice Princess", and at one point villains explode out of giant Christmas presents to attack City Hall. There's also a holiday ball, Christmas shoppers on the streets, and a recurring line about mistletoe.
