Jack White Paid Tribute to Van Halen With “SNL” Performance

Morgan Wallen was booted as this weekend’s musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” for breaking COVID protocols. Instead, Jack White rocked the stage, making sure to pay tribute to the late, great Eddie Van Halen just days after news of his death broke.

White started things off with a medley, covering Blind Willie Johnson’s 1920s song “Jesus Is Coming Soon,” along with a snippet of his Beyonce collab “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” followed by The White Stripes’ “Ball and Biscuit.” He then saluted Van Halen with an Eddie-style solo at the start of his own song, “Lazaretto.”

“I thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue Eddie Van Halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL,” White wrote on Instagram ahead of the show, showing off the guitar. “Eddie was very kind to me… I won’t even insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs tonight.”

Gwen Stefani & No Doubt Celebrate 25th Anniversary Of “Tragic Kingdom”

Saturday marked the 25th anniversary of No Doubt’s hit album “Tragic Kingdom” and Gwen Stefani took to social media to celebrate the milestone.

"I have so many memories. So many people that I've met through the years that have told me that that's their favorite record," Gwen shared. "I didn't even think it would come out, let alone have people love it and listen to it and it be their favorite. I feel like I'm still just a girl from Orange County, but I have all these blessings."

She also thanked her No Doubt bandmates, as well as all the fans of the album, noting their support “just fuels my fire and music makes the world go 'round." Check it out to the right.

·No Doubt’s Tony Kanal also marked the milestone. "Through all of the fun and challenging times, we were just a group of friends on a mission to express ourselves musically. Sometimes It felt like it was us against the world but our love for our band got us through it all,” he shared. “To everyone that embraced Tragic Kingdom and made it a part of their lives, you have my never ending appreciation and gratitude. You guys are incredible. You gave us the fuel to continue creating, keep playing, write more songs and release more albums. Happy 25th Tragic Kingdom to us all.”

·Adrian Young added, “Thank you to those who have shared this crazy and spectacular ride with us! Knowing that this record has touched so many of your lives makes the recognition of this day that much more special!"

The 20 Greatest Albums of the '80s (JD)

The '80s are probably better known for SINGLES and ONE-HIT WONDERS than ALBUMS . . . but yesterday was National Album Day in the U.K., so the BBC conducted a survey to find the best albums of the '80s.

Since it's a foreign list, a few local favorites did better than they would've in the States . . . stuff like the Scottish band Deacon Blue, the British band ABC, and the Stone Roses beat out Michael Jackson. But it's still interesting.

Here's the Top 20:

1. U2,"The Joshua Tree"

2. Dire Straits,"Brothers in Arms"

3. The Stone Roses,"The Stone Roses"

4. Michael Jackson,"Thriller"

5. Guns N' Roses,"Appetite for Destruction"

6. The Human League,"Dare"
