International Day of the Nacho
We proudly celebrate International Day of the Nacho! Nachos originated in the city of Piedras Negras, Mexico in 1943. The wives of US soldiers visited a restaurant called "The Victory Club" after it had closed for the day. The maitre d’ Ignacio “nacho” Anaya, invented a new snack for them, with what little he had available in the kitchen . . . tortillas and cheese. He cut the tortillas into triangles, added cheddar cheese and sliced jalapeno peppers. He then served the dish calling it "Nachos Especiales".
A kid in Maine called his parents' bluff and wore a hot dog costume to his school for his ID photo.
