SpaceX successfully launched its "Falcon Heavy" rocket
yesterday, the most powerful rocket in the world. And then safely landed both reusable boosters simultaneously.
The rocket launched a Tesla into space while it played a loop of "Life on Mars" by David Bowie over its speaker system. If everything goes according to plan, the car will drift into an orbit around MARS. Some experts think it'll get torn apart by radiation in less than a year though.
From Listener Anthony:
"His roadster is no longer circling the earth. 5 hours after the launch it did an additional two more burn to escape earth’s gravity and put it in an orbit that will center on the sun.
It will fly by Mars, in to the asteroid belt and back in to the center of the soler system to circle the sun making a heliocentric orbit (egg shaped orbit around the sun).
I really don’t think that people understand how big this is.
Houston is Space City because of the government. Elon just made that a little smaller."
