Stephen King's The Boogeyman Re-Cut After Audiences Scream Too Much

A new Stephen King film adaptation, The Boogeyman, was re-cut after audiences screamed so loud during test screenings that they missed important dialogue. The film, which is based on King's 1973 short story of the same name, follows two sisters who are haunted by a terrifying entity.

Director Rob Savage told Empire that the first time the creature is seen on screen, the audience screamed so loudly that they couldn't hear the next few lines of dialogue. As a result, the film was re-cut to add 45 seconds of padding to that scene.

Despite the need for re-cutting, The Boogeyman has received positive reviews from critics and King himself. King told Savage that he "jumped on numerous occasions" during the screening and that he was "still thinking about the movie the next morning."

The Boogeyman is set to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023. It stars Sophie Thatcher, Vivien Lyra Blair, Chris Messina, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton, and David Dastmalchian.

In other King adaptations, HBO is developing a prequel series titled Welcome to Derry. The series will explore the town of Derry, Maine, and its dark history, and it is set to be released in 2024.
