The operator of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell says it will start taking orders through social media and text messages. Fast food company Yum Brands announced it has acquired a company to allow them to be able to fill the text-placed requests along with other methods of ordering. Company officials say the test of the features was successful in 900 locations in 35 countries outside the U.S.
They can be used for pickup, delivery, or in-person dining orders. It comes as the fast food industry bucked the overall restaurant sales trend in 2020 by seeing an increase in revenues. Yum Brands saw a 45-percent sales increase and brought in a record 17-billion dollars.
"The technology turns around a customer’s order in as fast as 60 seconds, said Clay Johnson, Yum’s chief digital and technology officer.
