Mission: Impossible 7 Stops Production Over Coronavirus Fears

The seventh Mission: Impossible film has suffered a setback. According to SlashFilm, Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie were about to start a three-week leg of the production in Venice, Italy. With the local government halting all public gatherings in an effort to fight the coronavirus outbreak, the production team has been forced to alter their plans. Paramount Pictures issued the below statement on the matter:

“Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three-week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7. During this hiatus we want to be mindful of the concerns of the crew and are allowing them to return home until production starts. We will continue to monitor this situation, and work alongside health and government officials as it evolves.”

Plans call for Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 to film back-to-back, with M:I 7 hitting theaters on July 23, 2021 and M:I 8 arriving on August 5, 2022.
