The Dr. Martens shoe company is celebrating its 60th anniversary by honoring legendary New York music venue CBGB, widely considered the birthplace of the American punk movement.
According to AltPress, Dr. Martens is releasing its 1460 boot in two different CBGB tribute designs. One is black with the iconic CBGB logo on the front of the boot. A second, more colorful design also features logo, but is covered in abstract color swatches created from archival imagery from CBGB and then manipulated into a skull motif.
CBGB closed its doors in 2006, but bands like the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads came up playing there in the '70s. The club was a home for hardcore in the '80s and went on to embrace early grunge acts in the '90s and various music subcultures right to the end.
