Production has begun on The Many Saints of Newark and the first photos of James Gandolfini's son as young Tony Soprano are popping up online. Michael Gandolfini certainly looks the part.
According to Coming Soon, the film, written by The Sopranos creator David Chase, will be set during the Newark riots in the 1960s. Not much is known about the story, but the Sopranos prequel will feature young versions of Tony and his friend Dickie Moltisanti (Christopher's father) and boast an impressive cast including Jon Bernthal, Ray Liotta, Vera Farmiga, Billy Magnussen, and Leslie Odom Jr. Director Alan Taylor's credits include episodes of The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and Game of Thrones for HBO, Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, and Terminator Genisys.
