via ABC13, '-The City of Houston and ABC13 has received numerous calls into the newsroom and have seen many social media posts about a strange smell in the Heights and in parts of southwest Houston.
Officials say the smell started at the Lyondell Basell plant in Channelview and moved west across Houston, specifically between I-10 and Highway 59 and downtown.
The smell is not believed to be harmful, but emergency crews are investigating. According to AlertHouston, "air quality monitors do not indicate the presence of hazardous chemicals."
Officials are suggesting that residents avoid traveling through the affected area until the odor has dissipated.'
