The Government Will Try to Break Up Live Nation and Ticketmaster 

 

 

You probably kinda saw this one coming: According to several media reports, the U.S. Justice Department is going to file an antitrust lawsuit today to break up Live Nation and Ticketmaster.

 

 

The DOJ says Live Nation has used unfair means to squash competition in the live event ticketing industry . . . and if you've ever been to a live event, you probably agree.

 

 

Back in 2010, when Live Nation merged with Ticketmaster, it actually promised the DOJ that it wouldn't punish concert venues that use competing ticket platforms. They may not have been entirely honest in that moment.

 

 

Ticketmaster owns between 70% and 80% of the market for primary ticket sales in the U.S.

Train Founding Member Charlie Colin Dead At 58 After Falling In Shower.

Train founding member and bassist Charlie Colin has passed away at the age of 58. According to his mother, the musician fell in the shower while house-sitting in Brussels, Belgium where he had relocated to teach and record. His body had reportedly gone undiscovered for five days. Frontman Pat Monahan paid heartfelt tribute to his prior bandmate, saying, "When I met Charlie Colin, I fell in love with him. He was THE sweetest guy and what a handsome chap...His unique bass playing and beautiful guitar work helped get folks to notice us." Monahan finished the tribute by saying, "You're a legend, Charlie. Go charm the pants off those angels.” Colin was part of the group’s meteoric rise to fame, enjoying mainstream success with hits like "Drops of Jupiter” and winning two GRAMMYs before his 2003 departure.
