Man, Under the Influence, Bites Seagull After It Tries to Steal His McDonald's

ENGLAND - A McDonald’s customer was arrested after he allegedly bit a seagull after it tried to steal his meal. The suspect reportedly attacked the bird in front of the authorities.

Officers from a local unit were on patrol when they witnessed the incident in the city of Plymouth, England, Cornwall Live reports.The man reportedly claimed that the bird was trying to steal his McDonald’s, so he grabbed it and bit it.

The animal apparently appeared to be injured as a result of the bite, but it flew away before authorities could inspect it. The suspect reportedly admitted to being under the influence of drugs.

The suspect was taken into custody since seagulls are a protected species in the area. The McDonald’s fan is reportedly facing up to six months in prison or a fine of about $6,300.

In a statement obtained by Cornwall Live, a spokesperson for the local police department said, “He sunk his teeth into it before throwing it to the floor. Officers had seen the incident and immediately went over and detained and took details from him. Around this time, the man volunteered the information that he was under the influence of drugs and it was decided that he should be taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment. The seagull was clearly injured by the incident but flew off before we were able to check on its welfare. We don't know what happened to it afterward.”

Sussex Co., DE - A crook looking for some dough got served up something else when trying to hold up a pizza shop in Delaware on Friday.

Delaware State Police said they are searching for a man who attempted to rob Stargate Pizza in Sussex County, and only fled after the owner flung pizza at him.

Officials said they received a call about the incident in Greenwood at 10:30 p.m.

The owner told troopers that while he was closing his business for the night, a man with a machete approached him and demanded money.

"The store owner advised the suspect that he did not have any money and threw a pizza at him, causing the suspect to flee,"state police said.

The suspect then ran from the scene and got into a vehicle, driving off northbound on Sussex Highway.

Fla. Man Crashes Into Church, Sets It on Fire

Ocala, FL -- A Florida man was arrested Saturday after plowing his vehicle into a Catholic church and then setting the building on fire as parishioners were inside preparing for Mass, according to officials.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Steven Anthony Shields, 24, crashed his van through the front doors of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala around 7:30 a.m. He got out, poured gasoline in the foyer area and set it on fire, authorities said.

Shields then drove off but was spotted by Deputy Josue Gonzalez, who stopped the vehicle by hitting it with his patrol car, the sheriff's office said.

Officials said parishioners were not injured. Marion County firefighters quickly doused the fire.

Steven Anthony Shields, 24, allegedly crashed his vehicle through the front doors of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala and then set a fire in the building's foyer area, according to the sheriff's office.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Ocala Star-Banner, Shields told investigators what he did was "awesome" and smiled and laughed while admitting to setting the church ablaze.

Shields, who referred to himself as "king" and claimied to be on a "mission," told a detective he has problems with the Catholic Church, according to the affidavit.

Shields, who lives in nearby Dunnellon, also said he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is not taking his medication, the Star-Banner reported.

The foyer of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala sustained major damage after the incident on Saturday morning.

Shields is facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, arson, burglary and attempting to elude. He is being held in the Marion County Jail.

The church foyer was heavily damaged, but Mass was still celebrated Saturday evening in the parish hall, according to the Star-Banner.
