Music: Courtney Love/Dave Grohl Are Headed To Court vs. Marc Jacobs

Love/Grohl Headed To Court vs. Marc Jacobs

Courtney Love, Frances Bean Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic have failed to reach a settlement in their legal battle accusing fashion designer Marc Jacobs of ripping off Nirvana.

According to court documents, the parties attended a settlement conference on October 16, to “try and resolve their differences.”

The report states the parties “did not succeed in settling the action” and were unable to reach a resolution. As a result, the case will now move forward to a full out trial.

Last year, Nirvana L.L.C. sued Marc Jacobs accusing him of ripping off an iconic Nirvana logo with a smiley face. They claim despite having the trademark for the image, the designer used the logo without permission. The lawsuit is seeking in excess of $1 million dollars in damages.

The lawsuit took issue with a collection by Marc Jacobs named “Bootleg Redux Grunge,” which featured a similar-looking smiley face on socks, shirts, and sweaters.

The designer fired back and denied all allegations of wrongdoing. He basically introduced the world to grunge. Jacobs even called out Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain, saying he had been close friends with them for decades.

The parties had been ordered to attend mediation in an attempt to settle, which didn't work out.

Beck Releases New Song

Beck has released a new song, “Everlasting Nothing,” from his upcoming album "Hyperspace." It’s the fifth single from the project, following “Saw Lightning,” “Hyperlife,” “Uneventful Days,” and “Dark Places,” all of which were written in collaboration with Pharrell. “Everlasting Nothing” is keeping with the usual Beck feel but ups the ante with backing vocals from a nine-person choir.

Beck said of the new album, “There’d been a period of time where Pharrell had been really busy and an opportunity opened up so I went with it. Originally it was going to be a single or an EP, but I think we were both surprised when there was a body of work here.”

The new record comes out on November 22.
