10 Things about the White House Correspondents' Dinner Shooting

As you know, Saturday night's White House Correspondents' Dinner came to an abrupt halt when a shooter rushed a Secret Service security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, opened fire, and injured an agent.

 

 

President Trump thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement after the incident. He wants to reschedule the dinner within the next 30 days.

 

 

Here's a rundown of 10 things you should know:

 

 

The shooter was 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. He's a teacher, independent video game developer, and has a mechanical engineering degree from CalTech. He's currently in custody.

 

Allen referred to himself as a "friendly federal assassin" in a manifesto he sent to his family right before opening fire. 

He said his targets were "administration officials". He was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.

4. This didn't age well:  Jimmy Kimmel did his own Correspondents' dinner roast on his show Thursday night and said, quote, "Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow."

 

This also didn't age well: Press secretary Karoline Leavitt is going viral for saying there will be "shots fired" in an interview before the event. 

She was referring to how she was looking forward to President Trump's speech.

UFC's Dana White is making headlines for his comments on the shooting. 

He said, quote, "I didn't get down. It was [effing] awesome, and I literally took every minute of it in. It was a pretty crazy, unique experience."
