Green Day officially have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and during the unveiling ceremony on Thursday (May 1), Billie Joe Armstrong compared the accolade to "being at your own funeral."

“This is crazy,” the frontman told the crowd of fans who attended the event. “[It’s] kind of like being at your own funeral.”

“This is for my mom,” he added. “This is like my mom’s Super Bowl right now.”

Actor Ryan Reynolds and tennis star Serena Williams (who happens to be a MASSIVE Green Day fan) also spoke during the event. Former MTV personality Matt Pinfield hosted the ceremony, which is miraculous considering he suffered a stroke at the beginning of the year and woke up from a months-long coma just last month.

“What an honor it is to be here today with these three guys that I love. Love their music and love them as people,” Pinfield said at the beginning of the ceremony. “[Dookie] made so many young people pick up guitars, bass, and drums, and want to sing and write songs.”

“That is what punk rock, rock and roll music is all about," he added. "That beauty, that love, a passing on of that gift. And that’s the thing that’s so special about Green Day and why it’s such an honor to be here today.”

Fans can find Green Day's star at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, which is conveniently located outside of the famed record store Amoeba Music and nearby fellow California rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Green Day's playing the festival circuit this year. They just wrapped up headlining Coachella and also plan to headline festivals including Welcome to RockvilleOceans Calling and Riot Fest, among others. They're also gearing up to release a deluxe edition of their latest album Saviors on May 23 that features five new songs.
