No team has EVER won three straight Super Bowls. The Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to change that against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59 last night . . . but they failed to show up. At all.
The Eagles were up 7-0 after the first quarter . . . 24-0 at the half . . . and 34-0 with seconds left in the third quarter. That's when Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes FINALLY started making some plays, but it was too little too late.
The Eagles even did the "Gatorade Shower" with three minutes left to go in the game, which might have been a record for the earliest COACH-BATH.
The liquid was yellow-green, if you did one of those silly prop-bets.
Mahomes actually ended up with more passing yards (257) and more touchdowns (three) . . . but pretty much ALL of that was in garbage time, after he was already down more than 30 points.
He also threw two interceptions, and coughed up a fumble. It was arguably the worst game of his NFL career. He'd never been down by 34 points before.
And for all the Swifties out there, tight end Travis Kelce was a non-factor . . . although the Philadelphia defense made EVERYONE look bad.
There was a SLIM OPPORTUNITY for something magical.
Tom Brady was one of the broadcasters, so people were talking about how Mahomes COULD'VE made a run at Brady's legacy if he would've stormed back from a 24-point deficit at the half . . . or after being down 34-0.
Brady and the New England Patriots were down 28-3 in the third quarter in Super Bowl 51 to the Atlanta Falcons . . . before miraculously coming back to win 34-28 in overtime.
But clearly, that wasn't in the cards for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
