Egg lovers are scrambling to find their favorite breakfast staple as a nationwide shortage hits grocery store shelves. Trader Joe’s and Costco are now limiting egg purchases, with signs restricting shoppers to just one or three dozen, depending on the store. The shortage stems from a massive avian flu outbreak that’s wiped out around 8% of egg-laying hens across the country, sending prices soaring and leaving shelves bare. The crisis has even prompted restaurants like Waffle House to add temporary surcharges to egg-based dishes.
