Disney made a surprise announcement yesterday: A sequel to 2016's "Moana" is on the way. It'll hit theaters on November 27th.
"Moana 2" was originally only meant to be a TV series, but it became a feature film because CEO Bob Iger was impressed with the footage.
It'll follow Moana, Maui, and a new cast of characters. When Moana receives a call from her ancestors, she must journey to the, quote, "far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters."
There's no official word on casting, like if Auli'i Cravalho and the Rock will return as Moana and Maui. But we do know Lin-Manuel Miranda will NOT be writing the music this time.
"Moana 2" is not related to the live-action remake, which comes out June 27th, 2025.
