Green Day Surprises New Yorkers With Six-Song Subway Set
“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon is always up to something, and with his recent antics, fans probably knew he had another trick up his sleeve. They most likely didn’t know that it would involve their afternoon commute and Green Day.
On Tuesday, the Billie Joe Armstrong-led band surprised tired workers on their way home with an impromptu six-song show in New York City’s Rockefeller Center subway station. The group stepped off a train in full disguise before suddenly jamming out on their instruments. To keep passersby guessing for a minute, they even opened with Bad Company’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love.”
Green Day eventually played their hits “Look Ma, No Brains,” “Basket Case,” “Dilemma,” and “American Idiot” (plus a cover of “Rock And Roll All Nite” by KISS) for the wowed crowd. The “gig” comes on the heels of the band’s announcement that their new “Saviors” tour will also feature the band rocking out two classic albums with birthdays this year… 1994’s “Dookie” and 2004’s “American Idiot.”

He’s the son of late bandmate Bradley Nowell and performed with the OG duo at a benefit last month. “This has so many layers for me,” admitted the younger rocker, who pointed out he was the same age as his dad when he passed (28). “It’s an honor to carry on with our family’s name and legacy with Sublime.”

Smashing Pumpkins took a new approach to finding a new guitarist: they opened the process to literally anyone. So maybe it’s no surprise that their application process raked in thousands of entries. “The band has received over 10,000 submissions for the position of additional guitarist,” confirmed the band on social media. “Currently, there are eight people working full-time reviewing each and everyone.” SP hasn’t yet announced when they’ll have a replacement in place for longtime strummer Jeff Schroder, but it looks like they’ve got their work cut out for them.
