"Purple Rain" Is Becoming a Broadway Musical

Broadway is about as creative and innovative as Hollywood these days, which is to say, not very much.

Case in point: Their latest big idea is a stage musical based on Prince's "Purple Rain."

The producers say, quote, "We can't wait for a new generation to discover 'Purple Rain' and for lovers of the original film and album to experience its power once again, this time live."

The original movie came out in 1984 and won the Oscar for Best Original Score.

Metallica Chooses Winner of Metallica Marching Band Competition.

Almost a year after one of rock’s biggest acts ever issued a challenge to marching bands everywhere, the winners have been crowned. Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls” was a national marching band competition, and the victors of multiple categories ranged from high school to college groups.

Auburn University took home the Division I College prize, worth $75,000, while Eastern New Mexico University won the Division 2 & 3 event and $40,000. On the high school side, Dobyns-Bennett High School from Kingsport, TN, won out of larger bands ($15,000), and Oaken High School in Vienna, VA, won the smaller-sized competition worth $15k.

In a dramatic twist, the medium-sized high school competition ended up in a tie between Boerne High School of Boerne, TX, and Malverne High School from Malverne, NY. Auburn University and Dobyns-Bennett High School took home the Fan Favorite prizes from college and high school, respectively.
