A U.K. mathematician named Hannah Fry did a video explaining why gloves don't always work on cell phones . . . but sausages and pickles do. It isn't very easy, but here's the explanation in a nutshell.
It has to do with ELECTRICITY. Humans, sausages, and pickles can store an electrical charge and conduct it. So, when we touch our phone screen, our stored charge connects with the grid inside.
That doesn't happen with items that don't transfer electricity, like a wooden utensil or a glove.
The video starts with her telling the story of how the people of South Korea were experiencing a brutally cold winter in 2010. Their gloves weren't working on their cell phones, so they resorted to using sausages.
