Food: Would You Try Pizza with a Slice of American Cheese on Top?

Would You Try Pizza with a Slice of American Cheese on Top?

You've never heard of this unless you're from a very specific part of western Pennsylvania.  But would you give it a go?

Something called Altoona-style pizza is making the rounds online.  Its namesake is the city of Altoona, about two hours east of Pittsburgh.

So what is it?  It's a slice of thick Sicilian-style pizza, with green peppers and SALAMI instead of pepperoni.  But the salami isn't why it's going viral.

Its defining characteristic is a slice of AMERICAN CHEESE on top.  (!!!)

A place called the Altoona Hotel started selling it around the 1960s.  The original recipe used Velveeta, but now Kraft Singles are acceptable.

A writer for TheTakeout.com did a big story on it, and called it "confoundingly delicious."  Quote, "American cheese on pizza WORKS.  It's odd and it's ugly, but it is undeniably magnificent."

So, yes or no?  Would you give American cheese pizza a shot?
