Brian May from Queen Helped NASA Retrieve an Asteroid Sample

It's well known at this point that Brian May from Queen is an actual astrophysicist.  And doesn't just sit on his degree.  He actually applies it.

He assisted NASA in a recent mission to collect a sample from the asteroid Bennu that's expected to hit Earth in the future.

Brian and a colleague created stereoscopic images using the spacecraft's data to locate a safe landing site for the sample collection.

He says, quote, "[I am] immensely proud to be a team member of OSIRIS-Rex.  Today is the long-awaited day when the sample is recovered to Earth . . .

"This box, when it is opened, can tell us untold secrets of the origins of the universe, the origins or our planet, and the origins of life itself . . . Enjoy this wonderful forward step in our knowledge of the universe."

Brian says you can read the full story of the mission in his new book, "Bennu 3-D: Anatomy of an Asteroid", which includes a 3-D viewer designed by him.
