McDonald's Is Getting Rid of Self-Serve Soda Fountains

 

 

When you were a kid, did you ever go to the soda fountain . . . and mix a bunch of flavors to create a "suicide" . . . swamp water . . . a graveyard . . . sewage . . . a pop bomb . . . or a hurricane?  Well . . .

 

 

McDonald's will be getting rid of their self-serve drink stations . . . and transitioning to a system where the employees will fill all cups.

 

 

They aren't taking away free refills . . . but they do think this system will cut back on theft AND be a more hygienic option, especially in a post-Covid world.

 

 

But the biggest factor is that they're not as necessary.  Fewer people are eating inside fast food restaurants . . . and more people are ordering for pick-up through the app or for delivery through a third-party service.  In both of those cases, employees already fill the cups . . . as they do for drive-thru orders.

 

 

The change won't happen overnight.  In fact, the shift will happen VERY slowly over the next 10 years . . . as the restaurants get updated.

WENDY’S IS GIVING AWAY FREE FRIES THIS WEEK

Wendy’s is always floating special deals with new menu offerings and limited-time specials and this week they are offering free fries with any purchase through September 17, 2023. Most of these free deals usually restrict you to a small or Jr. size, but you can get any size of fries that you want on this promotion. 

Wendy’s french fries came out on top of 12 fast-food chains in an allrecipes poll and they are advertised as hot and crispy by the chain. To get your free fries go to the “Offers” section of the Wendy’s website or mobile app. Just apply the offer to your order or order at a Wendy’s restaurant by adding to digital rewards before you scan it at the drive-thru or at the counter. You need to be a rewards member to grab the deal. 

Wendy’s also has some special deals after the free fries deal expires on September 17 for the remainder of the month including: 

1. Free soft drink with any purchase from September 25 – October 1 
2. $2 off any Premium Combo for the month of September (deal refreshed weekly) 
3. $2 off any Breakfast Combo for the month of September (deal refreshed weekly) 
4. $3 off any order of $15 or more for the month of September (deal refreshes daily)
