Music: Fall Out Boy Updated Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire"

Fall Out Boy Updated Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" . . . But They Left Out COVID

A lot of people hate Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire."  In fact, Billy himself has called it, quote, "One of the most hated things I ever wrote!"

Still, it's surprising that no one has thought to record a new, updated version . . . until now.  Fall Out Boy just dropped their own take to cover 1989 through 2023.  References include:

Rodney King, the L.A. riots, deep fakes, "Harry Potter," Crimea, Michael Jackson's death, the Cubs winning the World Series, John Bobbitt, Balloon Boy, 9/11, the War on Terror, QAnon, Donald Trump's impeachments . . .

Y2K, Brexit, "Stranger Things," "Tiger King," the Fyre Fest, Sandy Hook, Columbine, George FloydMichael JordanVenus and Serena Williams, Woodstock '99, and, of course, "Captain Planet."

The band says, quote, "So much has happened in the span of the last 34 years, we felt like a little system update might be fun.  Hope you like our take on it."

One thing that's NOT mentioned in the song is arguably the biggest, most influential incident of the past 34 years:  The coronavirus pandemic.

But they ignored it ON PURPOSE.  Pete Wentz says, quote, "It's like, that's all anybody talked [about] . . . You know what I mean?  I don't know.  It felt like there were a couple of things that felt like a little on the nose."

FLEA Has A Heart-To-Heart With Anthony Kiedis

Red Hot Chili Peppers have accomplished more than many other bands of their era- or since. But sometimes rock icons reveal that they, too, are just people.

Flea recently revealed that RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis doesn’t think of himself as a musician, and pointed out that they confronted that on his podcast, “This Little Light.” “A really good (interview) was with Anthony. We were both kind of in tears because I’d never talked to him about stuff like that,” confessed Flea. “He used to say we should change the band’s name to Idiot and the Three Geniuses.

But Flea is quick to defend his bandmate, saying “I think he’s a great singer. And he’s always learning and getting better. When we started the band, he couldn’t sing a note – he just yelled. Now he’s got melodies, and he doesn’t even stick to them. He flows around and improvises.” The bassist says that, while Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison might have been regarded as amazing singers, “nobody sounds like Anthony Kiedis.”

Liam Gallagher To Celebrate Live Album With "Intimate" Show

Liam Gallagher To Celebrate Live Album With "Intimate" Show: Despite what Noel Gallagher might think, his ex-Oasis bandmate (and estranged brother) Liam Gallagher isn't just sitting around waiting for Noel to call. Liam has announced a new live album, "Knebworth 22," and a show to accompany it. The rocker is set to perform on August 9th at London's recently-restored KOKO venue. And while the album, which drops on August 11th, is a recording of Liam's gigantic 170,000-attendee concert, this London show will be the opposite- playing to no more than 1,400 fans.

Paul McCartney Says Bruce Springsteen Made Everybody Else Have to Work Too Hard

Concerts used to be a lot more low-key . . . then Bruce Springsteen came along with his massive, three-to-four-hour shows and ruined it for everybody.  At least, that's how Paul McCartney sees it.

Quote, "I blame Bruce Springsteen . . . I've told him so!  I said, 'It's your fault, man!' . . . We used to do a half-hour.  That was the Beatles' thing:  half an hour, and we got paid for it!"

Paul says shorter shows were more common in the '60s because there were usually several acts on a bill rather than just a headliner and an opener.
