“Chop Suey!” By System Of A Down Joins 1 Billion Club
A System Of A Down hit song over 20 years old has recently gotten some major love. “Chop Suey!” off Down’s second album, 2001’s “Toxicity,” has become the newest rock song to pass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
“This song is about how we are regarded differently depending on how we pass (away),” said singer/guitarist Daron Malakian, before ominously adding: “Like, if I were now to die from drug abuse, they might say I deserved it because I abused dangerous drugs.”
System Of A Down has been quiet lately. The band has only released two songs in the last 18 years, both in 2020. They still tour occasionally but don’t currently have one on the books. “Chop Suey!” brought Down its first GRAMMY nomination for “Best Metal Performance” in 2002.
