Taylor Hawkins' Son Shane Wins Drum Performance Of The Year
A surprise musician has won one of the Drumeo Awards’ top prizes. Shane Hawkins, son of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, received “Best Performance Of The Year” for his tribute to his dad during Foo Fighters’ tribute shows to Taylor in London and Los Angeles.
The younger Hawkins beat out 75 drummers from 16 countries. Shane performed “My Hero” in both cities and added “I’ll Stick Around” during the Los Angeles show. "I started crying. He’s got it. He’s got such power and enthusiasm,” admitted fellow drummer Stewart Copeland.
However, RHCP’s Chad Smith took home, Drummer Of The Year for his busy year in which he played with Ozzy Osbourne and Iggy Pop. Travis Barker from Blink-182 was named Best Rock Drummer.

(If you're willing to dive into this whole mess, here's a blog post from Ticketmaster explaining everything in detail.)
